Great article. But I’m afraid there is much much more to mathematics than arithmetics and its visualizations. Beyond the numbers are the symbols…and further…even higher levels of abstractions. Visualization becomes impossible at higher levels of abstraction. Imagination takes over from knowledge and becomes a driving force of discovery. How do you teach that? I remember asking my high school geometry teacher, who was a stern middle aged Roman Catholic nun with a heavy Italian accent and broken English, that question. She had the best (and most concise) reply that I have yet across…she said You have to play with it
