UX Roles
In the field of User Experience (UX), there are several different roles that contribute to the design and development of user-friendly and intuitive digital products. Here are some common UX roles:
1-UX Designer: A UX designer is responsible for the overall user experience of a product. They conduct user research, create user personas, develop wireframes and prototypes, and collaborate with other stakeholders to design interfaces that meet user needs and business goals.
Tasks:
- Conduct UX research
- Find users’ pain points
- Generate ideas through
- Choose the best ideas
- Offer/accept critique on possible solutions
- Prototype
- Conduct usability testing
- Release the most beneficial design
2-Product Designer: Product Designer is another important role within the field of User Experience (UX) design. Product designers focus on the end-to-end design process, encompassing both the user experience and the overall product strategy. They collaborate with cross-functional teams, including stakeholders, engineers, and UX researchers, to create and deliver innovative and user-centered digital products.
Tasks:
- (Same as UX designers’)
- Inform and plan roadmaps
- Collaborate closely with development and marketing teams to ensure designs can be implemented properly
3-Visual Designer: Visual designers are responsible for the aesthetics and visual appeal of a product. They work on creating visually engaging interfaces, selecting appropriate color schemes, typography, and imagery to ensure a visually pleasing and cohesive design.
Tasks:
- Convert UX goals into attractive design sets (e.g., app screens) with high usability and accessibility
- Create and/or maintain libraries of product icons, colors and fonts
- Apply branding guidelines
- Utilize design concepts to make pleasing graphical user interfaces (GUIs)
4-UX Researcher: UX researchers conduct user research to gain insights into user behaviors, needs, and preferences. They use various research methods such as interviews, surveys, and usability testing to gather data, analyze it, and provide actionable recommendations to improve the user experience.
Tasks:
- Understand users deeply through qualitative research
- Develop realistic understandings of specific user traits through quantitative research
- Analyze gathered user data to synthesize key findings and make design proposals
- Advocate to other internal stakeholders for users’ needs and perspectives
- Help inform product goals by presenting research findings to relevant internal stakeholders
- Test and improve designs using evaluative research — e.g., usability testing
5-UX Write(Content strategists): A UX writer focuses on creating clear, concise, and user-friendly content for a product. They craft user interface text, error messages, and instructional copy to guide users and enhance the overall user experience.
Tasks:
- Write copy so users can navigate, use and troubleshoot user-interface products easily
- Create effective page titles and navigation menu item names so users can intuitively access desired pages/screens
- Write simple, effective and blame-free error messages to assure users
- Weave cohesive narratives throughout products to express a consistent tone of voice and direction for users
- Define and maintain a vision for each product’s language for across-the-board application
6-UX engineers(UX Developer): UX developers bridge the gap between design and development. They collaborate with designers and developers to ensure that the design vision is implemented correctly, paying attention to details like animations, transitions, and responsiveness.
Tasks:
- (Same as UX designers’)
- Develop live frontend prototypes for realistic usability testing
- Implement frontend code
These roles may vary in different organizations, and sometimes individuals may have overlapping responsibilities. Additionally, the size and scope of a project can also influence the specific roles and responsibilities within a UX team.
