Why You are Tired and Unmotivated
Do you ever feel like your work or something you need to get done is just draining and you just can’t seem to get it done?
Sometimes being motivated to do something depends on whether or not you are mentally willing to do the task. It’s not about that you are too tired to physically do it, you have feet and hands. Its’ not even about whether or not the task is hard. Eating healthy is not technically or physically hard. But the will power it takes is not an unlimited resource, and I don’t get care how motivated you think you are, when that will power is consumed, there’s not much you will accomplish for the rest of day…
So the best way to manage your will power center, a.k.a prefrontal cortex, is to understand the 3 types of fatigues that burns you out.
Firstly the decision making fatigue. Should I do it, should I not do it. Do I have the time right now? Is it really important or can it wait? Oh man I should’ve done it, now I regret! All these thoughts and this mental back and forth will drain the life out of you everyday. So make a decision and stick to it. If you’re going to do it, then stop thinking about it and do it. Easier say than done but you basically just have to shut off the brain and take action.
The second type of fatigue is the persona fatigue. If you’re are not being congruent with yourself, playing a role and being someone you’re not, you’re burning yourself up. This consumes so much energy because you are micro managing your very moves and words. Is this funny? Would that make me look cool? Oh no this doesn’t look like me. All this fakeness not only makes you tired but also makes you miserable. It is so effortless to be yourself, so natural and relaxing. Funny enough when you are ‘being yourself’ your energy will go up and up and up.
And lastly, self judgement fatigue. A little different from the previous one, your are limiting yourself to fit some standards that don’t exist. What are they going to think of me? I screwed up big time, oh I’m so lame! That was so selfish! As you are exhausting yourself, you are also engaging in self sabotaging behaviors and thought pattern. Stay away from this or you will always feel unworthy and feel like you have to prove something…
We all tend to afflicted with these fatigues. The goal here is to catch yourself having these thoughts and stopping them. Learn to do that and you will never find yourself unable to get things done.
