A Technical Report for Sample Sales Data

The dataset under review comprises records spanning three (3) years of sales transaction (2003–2005) data from an unknown business. This dataset thoroughly shows the company’s sales performance and customer demographics by including data on orders, items, customers, and sales.

The review’s main goals are to point out important variables, provide preliminary insights/findings, and recommend potential areas for further analysis.

Dataset Familiarization:

There are 25 columns in the dataset, and each row corresponds to a sales order line. Among the important columns are: Order number, Quantity ordered, Price each, Order line number, Sales, Order date, Status, Qtr. ID, Month ID, Year ID, Product code, Customer name, Phone, Addressline1, Addressline2, City, State, Postal code, Country, Territory, Contact last-name, Contact first-name, Deal size.

Data Types identification:

· Numerical: Order number, Quantity ordered, Price each, Order line number, Sales, Qtr. ID, Month ID, year ID, Postal code

Categorical: Status, Product code, Customer name, Phone, Addressline1, Addressline2, City, State, Country, Territory, Contact last-name, Contact first-name, Deal size.

Observations/Findings:

1. Sales Performance: The sales column shows the total sales amount which can be examined to determine the best-performing goods. The dataset indicates that order sales value varies greatly, indicating a combination of small and large transactions.

Summary Statistics

· Average Sales: $3,553.89

· Median Sales: $3,184.80

· Maximum Sales: $14,082.80

  1. Order Status

This column indicates that the majority of orders have been shipped, which is a sign of effective order fulfillment.

  1. Order Distribution

Orders are dispersed among various quarters, months, and years to facilitate the trend analysis over time and also to compare performance from year to year.

  1. Customer Demographics

The dataset shows the customer’s city, state, postal code, country, and territory which indicates that orders come from a variety of countries, but the most common/prominent countries are the USA and France.

  1. Product Categories

From the dataset, different deal sizes (small, medium, and large) reflect a range of consumer needs and product offerings, whereas small and medium show the common deal sizes preferred by consumers.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, these insights offer a preliminary summary of the sales performance of an unknown business.

The consistent distribution of orders between quarters and years indicates steady sales performance over time.

Potential Areas for Further Analysis

· Analysis of customer’s purchasing patterns to determine the most important customer category.

· Conduct a thorough examination of product categories and sub-categories to determine the best-performing items/goods.
