Well-Designed
I really like it when I see something personal and handmade in an object that would otherwise be thought of as utilitarian and quotidian. There is a sense that hands were involved in crafting the product.

I see these signs every day as I walk NYC. They are simple and effective. Haiku for pedestrian safety awareness is a great, whimsical approach to what could otherwise be a dreary topic.


And here is another example of good design. There are three layers to this image: 1) the painting is by David Row, who uses a combination of mechanical curves and printing techniques to make a print that is both technically proficient yet still hand made 2)the pottery bowls are both hand made, yet use a highly mechanical process to be fired and thus exist 3) the assemblage is by me. Somehow it really makes sense for these pieces of art to be together and everyday I wake up to them together and it makes me feel settled.
