In collaboration with Duckland Games, we’re thrilled to bring you Forgotten Playland, a free-to-play online party game coming to you in the first quarter of 2024. Abandoned by their human owners, the Plushies have taken over the attic and created their personal playground.

Explore the playground the Plushies built while the humans have left.

Your social playground

Picture a dusty attic in a family home that’s been abandoned for years filled with hundreds, if not thousands, of small plush toy characters. These characters, known as Plushies, were left to their own devices as their owners left them for no apparent reason. Their shared destiny got them together and led them to create their own small playground, without ever needing any human interaction. Innovative as they are, they’ve built their own reality, filled with all manner of obstacles and games.

As the Plushies are continuously building and creating their own destiny, (their) Forgotten Playland is destined to change while time goes on. However, in its current form, the attic is made up of three main features:

Social Hub

A key feature of “Forgotten Playland” is the Social Hub, a dynamic and interactive online space where players come to hang out and socialize within the game. It’s located in the attic and it’s the starting point of every player’s adventure. The area buzzes with activity, providing a lively gathering spot for players.

Customization station

Players can personalize their Plushie characters at the Customization Station, which allows players to express their individuality and creativity. Players can customize up to six different traits of their Plushies: skin, head, eyes, neck, arms, and legs. This level of customization ensures that each Plushie is unique and reflective of the player’s style and preferences.

Minigames

Players navigate the Plushies through a series of imaginative and competitive minigames, set within the creatively repurposed corners of the attic. Each minigame showcases the Plushies’ competitive spirit. The games range from light-hearted fun to subtly sinister challenges, similar to the Plushies’ unique personalities.

Let’s zoom in on two of the minigames that are confirmed to be featured in the first release of Forgotten Playland; Bump-A-Ball and Jungle Rumble.

Bump-A-Ball

Bump-A-Ball is one of the many minigames introduced in Forgotten Playland. Players engage in an exhilarating contest with 2 to 4 players and try to knock each other off a wooden table platform. The platform evolves as saw blades gradually cut it down, shrinking the space and amplifying the difficulty. Players must skilfully balance offensive and defensive tactics, with the goal of being the last one standing amidst the intense competition.

Jungle Rumble

In Jungle Rumble, players navigate a vibrant jungle-themed area, dodging obstacles and each other alike to be the last Plushie standing. The lively chaos of smashing hammers, blowing fans and fire spitting dinosaurs creates an unpredictable adventure that intensifies every passing second.

Will you become the ruler of the wilderness?

Meet the Plushies

Although cute and innocent at first sight, the Plushies harness dark intentions and possess a surprising edge that echoes through all of Forgotten Playland. The Plushie is used by the player to navigate through the Hub and the available minigames.

Plushies can be customized with cosmetics through the Customization Station, available in the Social Hub. Distinguished aspects of the cosmetics are the eyes, head, skin, neck, legs and arms of the character. These cosmetics vary from common to ultra rare and are visualized through an NFT collection that is scheduled to release before the game’s launch.

Intentionally, cuteness is one of the key aspects of the toys, making them perfectly suitable for real-life merchandising as we have seen with other collections such as the Pudgy Penguins.

Powered by Beam

We believe that games should be easy to play, and gamers should be onboarded onto a new game in the blink of an eye. This ethos inspired us to create the gaming ecosystem Beam, allowing any game developer to integrate blockchain technology into their game.

Forgotten Playland, with web3 functionality in its core, will utilize a variety of the possibilities that the Beam ecosystem has to offer.

The exposure of being one of the games building on Beam will also ensure a constant drive of exposure and a pipeline for collaborations with other games and applications building on the ecosystem.

Vermilion Studios

In collaboration with a dedicated team of incredible developers, led by an industry veteran with decades of experience at EA, Ubisoft and many more, Vermilion Studios is a joint collaboration between Merit Circle Ventures and Duckland Games. Vermilion Studios combines experience within the web3 industry, knowledge of blockchain technology and a wide network with strong experience in building games.

Day-to-day it means that the game is built by a dedicated team of skilled game developers working around the clock in Breda, The Netherlands, to bring Forgotten Playland to life. All other aspects of the game, such as the in-game economics, smart contract design, token and NFT details are taken care of by Merit Circle.

Prepare to play

We’ve been quietly building for the past couple of months, and are excited to pull back the curtains in the near future. Stretching into the first quarter of the next year, we’ve laid out dozens of plans to engage with a variety of communities, and roll out the game to a computer console near you.

On that note, we may, or may not have a teaser right around the corner…

All artwork shown above is still WIP.
