Merit Circle collaborates with blockchain-based universe Goons of Balatroon
We are excited to announce our collaboration with Goons of Balatroon (GOB), a 2D/3D hybrid metaverse that features a play-to-earn card strategy game with land ownership for its players. What starts as a card game builds out into a large universe of games. As part of the collaboraiton, Merit Circle Ventures has invested $300,000 and is taking an advisory role.
What is Goons of Balatroon?
Goons of Balatroon (GOB) is a unique blockchain-based trading card game that incorporates 2D and 3D elements to create an immersive and quirky universe. Join players in selecting their Goon, a zany, wacky character that roams the lands of Balatroon. Engaged in an everlasting battle, players can choose to join the ‘Bulas’ or the ‘Bairs’ faction, and compete to stay on top.
Built with Unity on the Ethereum blockchain, GOB empowers players through digital ownership. The game involves a variety of NFTs, which can be used in gameplay, sold on the marketplace and even staked to earn in-game rewards. Players can battle against one another by using a mix of NFT-based and non-NFT-based Goon cards. While there is no requirement to purchase NFT-based cards, players will enjoy more in-game benefits by doing so.
Each and every NFT in Goons of Balatroon is functional and completely integrated into the framework of the game. All players are given access to a free base card pool, which can be used to build their deck, prepare their tactics and decide if they would like to play more competitively. NFT-based Goon cards are far more powerful and have enhanced battle strategies.
Players are further incentivized to acquire NFT avatars that give players higher in-game rewards. There are also various cosmetic NFTs that come in the form of Goon Bods, customizable body enhancements that carry unique in-game animations.
A $GOB a day, keeps the Goons at bay
As they roam the lands, players must be well equipped with $GOB to handle their business. Serving a dual purpose in governance as well as an in-game currency, $GOB can be earned in a variety of ways. Players can earn rewards from battle, from holding their Goon NFTs and by staking $GOB. With it being built on Ethereum, $ETH can also be used to mint new NFTs and for in-game purchases.
GOB was created with the gaming community in mind and this is reflected in the dynamics of the in-game economy and in its design. The tokenomics behind the game are intriguing, with a large portion of tokens being set aside for in-game rewards, community tournament rewards and design contests.
Additionally, the NFTs are deployed on Immutable X, a scaling solution on the Ethereum blockchain, which allows players to enjoy nearly gasless transactions. Bringing this together creates a rewarding experience for players who are free to seamlessly purchase, trade and customize their Goons without incurring high fees.
