Merit Circle partners with first-of-its-kind NFT bootstrapped game, Cantina Royale
The introduction of blockchain gaming and the play-to-earn format presented a variety of use-cases for these NFTs. Building on this, we are excited to announce our partnership with Cantina Royale, a first-of-its-kind game to bootstrap existing NFT collections. As part of our partnership, Merit Circle has invested $200,000.
What is Cantina Royale?
Cantina Royale is a top-down tactical arcade shooter game featuring multiple PvP and PvE game modes. These range from single player modes like missions and raids, to multiplayer modes such as arena matches and a battle royale. With lead investors such as Elrond and Mechanism Capital, backers including Animoca Brands and Crypto.com, expectations for the gameplay are high.
As the first of its kind, the game will feature fully-modeled bootstrapped NFT collections, starting with the BAYC collection. This is an intriguing development in this space as it introduces a novel use-case for NFTs, allowing players to create characters from their beloved collections. These vibrant and well-designed characters will also be brought over with the same attributes and visuals, so they don’t lose their original look and feel.
Incubated by Verko, a Layer 2 gaming platform, Cantina Royale is set to push the boundaries by creating an immersive gaming experience. Through seamless wallet integrations, players can easily jump into the game on any device, as they would with any non-blockchain games. As time progresses, the game will include more NFT collections that can be used to play in any of the game modes. Passive players can safely earn staking rewards by lending their NFTs through their in-house platform, also lowering the barrier of entry for gamers who would like to play for free.
Aside from a whole new world of character possibilities, Cantina Royale offers a deadly arsenal of weapons for players to choose from. With 10 different weapons separated into five classes, every play style and preference of players is taken into account.
Gamers who enjoy close-quartered action can use rapid-fire weapons like the SMG or spread weapons such as a shotgun. Marksmen can take out their enemies from afar using precision weapons like a crossbow or explosive weapons such as a rocket launcher.
Finally, players might want to think twice before running into a player with an elemental weapon, unless they want to feel the heat of their flamethrower firsthand.
The currencies of mercenaries
The Cantina Royale economy is supported by an interesting token system. $CRT is a listed token and acts as an economic incentive to encourage players to participate in the ecosystem. Players can use this in-game to purchase and sell NFT characters and earn this through token and NFT staking. Acting as a utility token, the more players engage with Cantina Royale, the bigger voice they have in shaping the game’s future.
The game also features an in-game currency called Imperial Credits. These are earned by players through PvP and PvE game modes, in addition to the sponsorship program. As players’ ranks increase, so too do their rewards. These coins represent $CRT within the game and are used to upgrade NFT characters and weapons, open loot boxes, unlock in-game assets and much more.
