Merit Circle collaborates with immersive RPG metaverse game The Lords of Light
Since their introduction in the early 90s, trading card games (TCGs), which combine card play with the excitement of trading and owning rare cards, have proved hugely popular and generated an enormous following. Many of us spent our childhood opening booster packs, trading cards and building our dream team of characters.
With that nostalgia in mind, we are happy to announce our partnership with blockchain gaming studio Raini and their first gaming release, The Lords of Light. As part of the collaboration, Merit Circle Ventures has invested $600,000 and takes on an advisory position.
What is The Lords of Light?
Join us as we explore the Rainiverse, an expansive realm where heroes, mythological creatures, and crypto legends come together to quest, craft, and wage war. Competing for the mysterious Rainbow Gem, these characters are imbued with the will of one of the seven Lords of Light.
The metaverse experience is cross-genre, and includes a wide range of gameplay experiences including questing, crafting in-game items and consumables, breeding characters, and trading on the marketplace. Questing within the Rainiverse can take many forms, with one of the flagship launch mechanics being a fully integrated TCG, where you can build your own decks with a number of crypto legends and fantasy characters, battling other players in an arena that sits between dimensions, bridging the Rainiverse and the Cryptoverse.
The TCG questing mechanic, inspired by the likes of Hearthstone and MTGA, brings its own unique take to the genre, with cards bonded to one of the seven Lords of Light, and the ability to “stake” cards within a match by dropping them into the staking portal, which allows you to accrue coloured mana gems that are required to play cards. The different colour affiliation come with different play styles and abilities, adding depth and variety to gameplay and enabling emergent tactical and strategic approaches to both real-time gameplay and long-term deck building.
Having worked with AAA and AA-rated industry giants such as Ubisoft, Microsoft, Playside and Magic Leap, the development team at Raini is set to make a splash in the GameFi space. By incorporating crypto themes and memes into its narrative, the game is sure to attract the attention of gaming communities and crypto enthusiasts alike.
Earn at lightspeed through the Photon Portal
Activities and gaming experiences in the Rainiverse will be supported by $Photon, the game utility token. Unique to this game, the primary way of earning is by interacting with the Photon Portal. Players can stake their $Photon or $Photon LP to receive a baseline level of rewards. These can then be used for various in-game transactions, including crafting, breeding, card pack purchases, and tournament entry.
Photon rewards can be increased by equipping photon magnifiers, special in-game items that can be crafted by players. These provide a temporary boost to a player’s staking rewards, thus incentivizing players to engage with the game ecosystem, in order to maintain and grow their rewards.
An additional Photon Portal reward pool accepts $Raini, the currently traded overarching token of the Raini blockchain gaming studio. This provides another on-ramp into the RTLOL ecosystem and gives $Raini holders exposure to the upside of the RTLOL metaverse.

Entertaining games often lead with a compelling storyline, providing creative sparks for gamers to use in building communities around the lore. The team behind The Lords of Light is set on building just that, and we are thrilled to be collaborating with a game that includes so many memes and well-known characters from the crypto community.
With the launch of the token and game set for Q3, there is a lot to look forward to.
