5 Conferences in 2017 a Django Developer shouldn’t miss

Working in the IT industry means that you have to be up to date with different technologies, libraries, frameworks, etc. This is probably why there are so many conferences to choose from. That goes for Python and Django events too. But what of them are worth your time? We’ve listed Python and Django conferences in 2017 a Python Developer shouldn’t miss.

It seems that IT world has gone crazy when it comes to a number of different conferences. If you like attending events, meeting new people, and gaining current knowledge, it could be a nice break from the daily routine. If you want to keep up to date with the latest Django and Python trends, there are plenty of events that will keep you in the loop.

You rather can’t go to them all. But since you have to choose, you might as well choose from the best. So here you have our list of the Python conferences and events that Python Developers should keep in their mind in 2017.

1. DjangoCon Europe 2017

DjangoCon is an annual European Django community conference “for the community by the community”. DjangoCon is a great place to learn, exchange ideas, and meet great tech people.

2017’s DjangoCon Europe takes place in Florence on 3–7 April. The first three days are for speeches and presentations and the last two days you can spend on workshops and sprints. Once again the event will be organized by a local committee of volunteers on behalf of the global Django community.

The programme is literally bursting at the seams, and it’s not complete yet! Ticket sales are now open — Early Bird tickets are sold, but regular ones are in.

DjangoCon also has its US edition. DjangoCon US 2017 will take place in Spokane, Washington, from August 13–18, 2017.

And to be honest, these are all strictly Django conferences. Fortunately, during Python events, there are many speeches about Django framework.

2. PyCon 2017 (original conference, US / North America)

PyCon is the largest annual conference for the Python community, organized by… Python community :) It’s the perfect event for Python enthusiasts of all experience levels. PyCon gives you opportunities to see a variety of presentations and discussions, meet developers from around the world, enroll in tutorials as well as participate in development sprints.

2017’s PyCon will take place in Portland, Oregon from May 17–25, 2017. PyCon is really five events in a row: Tutorial Days (May 17–18, 2017), Conference Days (May 19–21, 2017), Development Sprints (May 22–25,2017), Summits, and Job Fair (May 21, 2017).

The registration is open. And the list of talks as well as the list of tutorials is now available on the conference website.

The first PyCon was formed in North America in 2003, but there are now a number of other events being run in the PyCon spirit around the world. Check out the list of other conferences in different countries.

3. EuroPython 2017

The EuroPython conference series was initiated by the European Python community in 2002. It’s the largest Python conference in Europe. The main goal of the event is to bring together Python users and developers, as well as provide an opportunity for those who are interested in these technologies to learn more about them.

EuroPython 2017 will take place in Rimini, Italy from July 9–16, 2017.

The conference will be structured as follows:

  • July 9 — Workshops and Beginners’ Day

5. SciPy 2017

The annual SciPy conferences allow participants from academic, commercial, and governmental organizations to showcase their latest projects, learn from talented and skilled users and developers, and collaborate on code development. The conference generally means multiple days of tutorials, presentations, and developers sprints.

SciPy 2017 is the 16th annual Scientific Computing with Python conference. It will be held July 10–16, 2017 in Austin, Texas
Registration is open — Early Bird Registration will end May 22nd. The programme will be announced in the springtime.

SciPy also has its European edition. EuroSciPy 2017 will take place in Erlangen, Germany again. The exact dates are still subject to negotiations. Stay tuned — news come on twitter!

It is also worth to follow smaller local events and meetups. They are usually organized by local dev community and are held more often (even once a week!).

We’d love to invite you to follow a Django event powered by Merixstudio — Django Hotspot, a meetup for Django community.
