If a tree falls in the forest and only women are around to hear it, does it still make a sound?

If the tree represents sexism in tech then whether or not it fell in the first place is a highly contented topic. The comments sections of nearly every post or article that highlights sexism in startups and tech, as well as advertising and marketing, are full of white guys saying this sort of thing doesn’t happen and that the feminists just choose to hear things in a certain way and take offence.
Yet this is not only a case of men vs. women. Literally every minority group faces the same kind of rubbish. A recent bit of research into entrepreneurship found that the “entrepreneur gene” does not exist — it is merely a question of privilege that defines whether or not your startup is successful. Not terribly surprising to anyone who’s not a wealthy white male and has tried to start a business.
Now, nothing I said above is new and this is what really annoys me. We keep going to “females/ LGBTQ+/ people of colour in x” events and talking about how this stuff is real. What we’re not doing is anything concrete about it.
And I don’t mean the old “tear down patriarchy” stuff — that is not going to be constructive or helpful for anyone. How about we make sure that everyone is included and ok?
At its simplest, it could be making parental leave available to all parents for the same length of time — not splitting the already short statutory time. It could mean a universal provision of mental health care and counselling which is free at the point of access.
I’m sure there are many many better ideas for inclusion. I’m obviously blinded by my privilege and have therefore only been able to highlight solutions that would have helped with my particular issues. But I’m sure if I can name a few things to help, so can others.
So how about it? Tell me what we can do to make it fairer for all?
