Bringing India Into My House
2 out of 5 stars
I have never been to India, but have always liked Indian food. Spicy curry and soft, fluffy naan bread are one of my all-time favorite foods. So yesterday, I decided to make some curry and some naan.
I used my crockpot to make the curry, with chicken breast, red pepper, and store-bought simmer sauce, because I figured that it would cut down on preparation time during dinner time. Boy, did I regret. Within 2 hours, the house smelled like India. It wasn’t a bad smell, but it was so pungent. I felt that I couldn’t get any fresh air.
Then I tried making clean-eating naan. Whole-wheat flour, applesauce and milk. I cooked the naan on a skillet and hoped for the best.
The best was yet to be. My naan tasted so doughy, I felt like I was just eating dough. I think I didn’t roll the dough out thinly enough.
What saved the day was my husband finding the curry smell nice, and the naan tasty. It tasted just like real naan, he said.
As for me, I couldn’t finish my share. Some changes will have to be made before I ever think of doing this again.
