Sorry, Umair, you missed this one completely! The reason that you don’t find “leaders” today is because there is a new “leadership” model (notice the difference between “leader” and “leadership”) at work in the world. Leadership is now an emergent and collaborative product of the self-organizing systems that are “leading” (a process, NOT an individual) the search for balance in a world that is far-from-equilibrium. This new leadership has always been latent and distributed throughout systems but has been suppressed by hierarchy and patriarchy. Occupy Wall Street is a good example — everyone participated in the flow of the action and it was extremely successful in changing the global conversation about inequality. The problems are too complex now to expect individual “leaders” to solve them. “To change everything, we need everyone!” was the refrain I heard at the People’s Climate Change March. Fortunately, with the new self-organizing Resistance taking place all over the world, we’re getting the “leadership” we need in these difficult times.
