God Speaks Through Coincidences

A few days ago, I happened to come across this book called, God Winks by Squire Rushnell. Intrigued by the name, I immediately started to read the book. It’s one of those books that reassure you if you’ve forgotten that the Universe is constantly responding to you and giving you clues.

There are moments in life when we need wisdom beyond our human consciousness. During those crucial times, when a decision has to be made and when you’re in doubt that what you’re about to do is indeed the right step to be taken.

During these times, instead of relying on our own wisdom, we can freely look to the Universe for its guidance. Remember that when you ask, it is given. So the book talks about how there are no coincidences in life and that every event is sequenced and orderly if you look at it the right way.

The book gives compelling stories to read to assure us that indeed there are no coincidences. One such story that touched my heart was the story of a mutt named Moe. Chuck McCann, a TV actor on his way from a breakfast meeting saw this black Lab darting across the street unmanned.

So he followed the dog to a side street and started jogging when he fell and scraped his knee. As he was assessing the injury he felt a wet tongue run across his cheek. It was the dog! The next few days he was busy trying to contact his rightful owner.

A lady had contacted him saying that she too had once found the dog and had returned it to its owner and that she had her number. When he left a voice message to the owner and did not get a callback, he telephoned the owner, an apathetic annoyed voice took the phone and nodded that it was her dog.

“We were shifting houses, he must have run off”, she said. She continued saying that she thought he would be fine where he was. Appalled, Chuck asked her if he could keep the dog if she didn’t want him. “All right”, she said. And that’s how the dog and he became best pals.

After ten years of togetherness, the dog passed away from a stomach disorder and Chuck mourned the loss of Moe. Even though he had four other dogs, he continued to miss Moe and the special bond they had. One day Chuck found himself in a dog adoption show.

While he was there a dog that looked like a ball of feathers ran up to him. It was a six-month-old little Lhasa apso. He picked up the dog and saw that he had one blue eye and one brown eye. He was cute like a stuffed toy and they immediately bonded.

Chuck looked up and asked the lady with the rescue group what his name was. To which the lady replied, “Moe.” His heart stopped for a minute. Stunned he asked her again, “What?” She replied, “Moe.” To which he said, “I’ve got to have this dog.”

And after a lengthy interview process and showing around his home, the lady agreed to give Moe to him. Filled with joy he said, “I’ll always miss my first Moe, but this little Moe is filling a big hole in my heart.” What a story! Similarly in our lives too, the Universe concocts events to let us know that it’s always with us, guiding us in our darkest days.

All we need to do is keep a keen eye on those so-called coincidences and remember that the Universe is here with us helping us, comforting us, and guiding us in the right paths at all times.
