The biggest problem is that quarterback, while being the most important position on the field, is also the most poorly coached.

The other big problem is that spread offenses rely more on confusion than execution. You may confuse people at first, but it will take about a season (or less) for any NFL Defensive Coordinator worth the going pawn shop rate on his playbook to figure out how to stop it.
