Shaun LeBron you don’t need at all! We have been brainwashed to use “Petri Net” semantics (I was possibly the worst offender, and I could have written this article myself three years ago).
I discovered the work of Dr. Lamport who explains that programming language ** AND ** Petri Nets do not represent state machines properly. We do write state machines when we code, but unfortunately we use broken semantics from FP, RP, OOP, Petri Nets… They are not representative of the way we should write code. Happy to elaborate if someone is interested.
