The sun is out, the summer hols are approaching and a public display of our #mumbods in swimwear is imminent.

For some, this will prompt a quick wax and a pedicure and they’re good to go. For others, there will be a more complex plan, involving panic, Diet Coke and a desperate attempt at EXERCISE.

However, if even the thought of working out, makes you break into a sweat and head for the biscuit tin, then stop! It’s proven that the best way to motivate yourself to get active is to train with a friend. So, why not join a local class, meet some like-minded mamas and feel the burn together?

ace lifestyle

Fitness fanatics Anna and Charlotte, offer hugely popular, women-only, high intensity workouts in Finchley, Hampstead Garden Suburb, Hendon and now Borehamwood. Their 45 minute classes are constantly changing, to keep everyone on their toes and to match the fitness levels of the group. All abilities are welcome and there’s a real focus on technique, ensuring everyone stays injury free. With the moto ‘fit, strong, healthy,’ it’s got to be worth a shot! Brother and sister team Nicola and Iain, run a family business offering Mums on the Move, Fitness for Fun, Circuit Fit and Get Fit in East Barnet and Friern Barnet. Mum of three, Nicola, specialises in pre and post-natal fitness, while Iain is a highly experienced personal trainer. They pride themselves on offering the personal touch and promise never to take themselves too seriously! Zumba Mill Hill

Mum of four, Natasha, alongside her sister Annabelle, run this high energy Zumba class in Mill Hill. Their amazing playlist includes a sizzling mix of pop, Latino and reggae music, with a ‘people’s choice’ which can be voted for via their Facebook page. The focus is on cardio & toning, which is ideal for mums who want to get their pre-baby figures back. Their goal is to get everyone moving and burning fat, while working at their own pace. The CyClub

This dedicated spinning studio in Hampstead Garden Suburb, run by Sharon and Hilary, attracts mums who want to get in shape and stay that way! Their classes offer a low impact, high energy, cardio workout, on a stationary bike with pumping music and blue lights. Sessions are brilliant fun and suitable for all fitness levels. Pilates by Liron

If pilates is more your thing, you’ll love Liron’s eight week ‘Mementum’ course, at her studio in Woodside Park. Pilates and fitness expert Liron, has tailor-made this ‘transformational’ programme for mums wishing to strengthen their body while improving fitness and wellbeing. There’s a real emphasis on exploring the connection between the mind and the body, which participants love. Liron is also about to launch this unique course as a 12 week online programme. Inspired by pilates, barre (Ballet)and yoga, she promises to get you fit, toned and stronger than you’ve ever been, all in your own home! You can register your interest here

Friern Fitness

Over in Friern Barnet, Helen has been teaching fitness classes for over 20 years and runs a varied timetable, including Step Aerobics, Pilates and Shape Tone and Lift. Suitable for all ages, levels and abilities, she ensures that everyone is working out safely and effectively, while her boundless energy and enthusiasm ensures everyone has a great time. Her Zumba class even won a top award in Netmums nationwide ‘Classes For You’ competition, while Helen herself has been crowned their ‘Favourite Fitness Instructor’. Helen is also a beautician and has some great offers at G&D Studio 211 if you fancy a little pampering after class!

This brilliant trampolining fitness class, runs in Mill Hill, Barnet, Edgware and all over the UK and even offers child-friendly sessions. The focus is on fun, while motivating you to push yourself to achieve rapid results. Sets run in 10 minute cardio intervals for a H.I.I.T (High intensity interval training) workout.
