Don’t Be Such a Boomer and Stop Using ZOOM Meetings
Everyone likes Pizza, right? I mean, for every second 350 slices of pizza are eaten in The US.
Let’s say that you like Pizza so much to the point that you have it for every single meal of the day.
Now, 1 slice of Pizza has more than 400 calories, so you’ll definitely be putting on some weight. Unless, if you maintain a pretty strict workout routine, which we all know is not guaranteed.
The number one sad thing about this is that you’ll be missing out on a lot of delicious food. But you don’t really know that since you haven’t tried something other than Pizza. So technically, if you see a double-cheese burger with fries on the side, true it looks juicy and tasty, but you don’t drool over it because you haven’t tasted it before.
My point is, we all tried Zoom, it’s a great tool for meetings, but it’s time for a change. There are so many online communication tools that are mind-blowing and they leap Zoom up on a whole other level. So why don’t you just give it a shot, maybe one of them will be your double-cheese burger.
Let’s take a look through on what we have on our menu!
By the way, these are my personal favortie tools that I’ve tried and found the most effective. If you have something you want to recommend, please leave a note.
oVice
How Kawaii are these animal avatars!
Website: https://ovice.in
Just like “office” but you change the double “f” with a capital “V”.
It’s “oVice” [o-v-i-s], a virtual spatial platform where people meet in 1 room and interact as avatars in a 2-D custom-built world. What makes oVice stand out the most are the reality-rules governing inside the virtual space. The audio volume depends on the distance between avatars. So if you want to be heard clearly, all you have to do is approach people, the closer you get, the louder voices will get, if you’re too far, voices won’t be heard at all.
oVice is very customizable. They offer a big collection of free background layouts in a way that you can turn the whole place from office space to a coffee shop or a zoo if you want. You can also add static objects, like your company/organization logo, animated images, and embed website links too.
You don’t need a high-speed network to be able to use it comfortably. My wifi is slow as Christmas and sometimes it drops to less than 1 Mbps and I would still be able to navigate around the space and share my screen and camera without having my face frozen all the time.
I think oVice can be used for both business and social communication since it can be tailored to suit your online communication needs easily.
Gather Town
These bring back so much memory!
Website: https://gather.town
Let’s go back to the retro area at Gather Town where your friends or community will be gathering in a pixilated 2-D space and interacting as avatars. When using Gather for the first time, I felt like I’m playing The Legend of Zelda. It was extremely fun and the graphic is cute. They have a wide range of premade maps that you can use to make your space more personal. You can also add objects like plants, animals, furniture, from their objects library.
You’ll be using your keyboard to walk, and once you reach an area where a group of people is hanging out, you’ll be able to join their conversation easily.
I think Gather Town is a tool that tends to be more used for social communication. That’s why it’s great for hosting events, parties, and clubs!
Remo
Website: https://remo.co
Remo is a video-conferencing tool that’s similar to Zoom but it gives you the ability to form groups of conversations by joining a table and start talking. When trying it out for the first time, I liked the fact that you can knock on a group of people to join them. I would say if you’re planning to host a webinar or a seminar, Remo would be the one. The host can take the stage and attendees will be divided into tables. Oh, and for those, you can place down tables, chairs, and even change the whole background too!
Don’t judge until you try. I will leave demo links for each tool so you can take a virtual tour and see how it works and feels. I hope it’s saucy rather than cheesy.
