On New Zealand: We are a Gateway. Not an Outpost.

Hello World. This is my first post on Medium. I was inspired to put out this short-form essay after being invited a week ago to explain why I think New Zealand can benefit from technology. It is my intent to write in Medium periodic pieces on how we can realize the potential of NZ Inc. Your comments and constructive thought provocations are most welcome.
The global business environment is changing with economic systems restructuring, hierarchies crumbling and peer to peer participation reshaping businesses as we know them. Code has moved from 1’s and 0’s for the creation of desktop software and now even life itself can be summoned into existence within a few lines of code.
Boom-and-bust cycles are accelerating exponentially and the new normal is unpredictable. New mega-trends in the economic environment are exercising unprecedented pressure to existing organizations and governments.
This fundamental shift from the old to the new structure gives New Zealand a unique opportunity were we can co-design and co-develop business transformation with targeted engagements in the form of events, coaching, skill and capability development and the implementation of tools and insights to allow them to thrive and to deal positively with unstoppable change.
ICT has permeated every aspect of our lives and understanding from a governance perspective that it crosses every single New Zealand Ministry and office horizontally, rather than as its own vertical silo, is paramount.
Digital Technology enables leaders to catalyze ideas and innovations into inventions, thus building in-country capabilities, next-generation industries and national resilience.
With the support of a broad range of community leaders, entrepreneurs, academics, businesses and government, we can stimulate groundbreaking disruptive thinking and solutions aimed at solving some of New Zealand’s most pressing challenges.
We have a chance to uncover disruptive inventions, provide tactical know-how and skills for developing intellectual property and next-generation industries.
What would young New Zealanders design, think and create?
We must move from a mentality of giving one small step and into a vision of taking one exponential leapfrog.
