Chapter 4: Starting at the End

After all the delays, we were finally ready to start sprinting. It was good that we were going to meet after many months of working remotely. It was a big discussion of whether we do the sprint remotely or in person. We decided to do it in person because the public health recommendations allowed for the meeting to happen. Plus, everyone was eager to start meeting again.

We had to…

Chapter 3: Step 2: Starting from the beginning.

Design Sprint Overview

Sam insisted that she was very interested in the project and was a bit frustrated that we could not move forward faster, but it was just impossible to find a time with her to coordinate.

After our last call, we had agreed to organize a Design Sprint, but Sam was always busy to do her homework. She would not miss our phone calls, but if she was not delivering the…

Cover of the book: Agile Conversations by Squirrel and Frederick

At First Glance

The book offers a different perspective on Agile methodologies than most books, but a perspective that is consistent with the Agile principles. First of all, it focuses on the members of the agile team as humans, not resources. The core argument that the book is that developers/engineers are not interchangeable parts of the software or feature factory. Rather they are humans with a unique set of characteristics that they bring to any project.

The book focuses on the key aspects of actually delivering value among persons: conversations. …

Chapter 2: Step 1, Deciding what to do

“I think it is time to start at the end and validate that we have the right solution.” — I told Sam as drank my coffee during a video-conference with her.

“What do you mean?” — She said, leaning into the camera.

“Well, the results of the LDJ was to show an example to potential users.” — I replied.

“Yes, and I have a great business plan and pitchdeck. Don’t…

Chapter 1: An Intriguing Call

Getting Ready

I was thinking about my previous consulting gigs, I usually did not do things. My job was to come and observe how companies worked and develop digital products. Then I would either give them a report identifying areas of improvement, based on state-of-the-art research and then I would observe how the changes produced improvements. When a company wanted to create a new product, I would either give them a lecture on a particular methodology, or I would do 1-on-1 coaching where they tell me what they had done and I would give them pointers or areas of improvement.

But during…

As took a sip I noticed that my coffee was now cold, I don’t know how long it had passed since I started updating these slides for my class tomorrow, but I was certainly enjoying it that I forgot to drink my coffee at all.

I have this tick of checking my phone to see the time, even though as I was reaching for the phone, I remembered that there is a clock on my computer. I had…

Splash Screen of StG

Preamble

<<Creating “Sam the Guide” (StG)>> narrates the experience of going from an idea to an app. It showcases how different product management frameworks and methods are used in the curse of app development.

StG is not a real app and the chronicles are fictional, but the experience is real and based on my own life and expertise as a Product Strategist and Researcher. I have had the experience of developing several products taking them from an idea into a published digital product. Before that, I had…

The Unicorn Project: A Novel about Developers, Digital Disruption, and Thriving in the Age of Data by Gene Kim

At First Glance

The book follows Maxine as she is punished for a mistake she made and she is sent to join the Phoenix Project. The…
