Borat Review

Uproarious, side-splitting, and unrestrained, Borat quickly became a global phenomenon.

It was banned and censored in many countries.

The source of many lawsuits.

Borat is a comedy without a safety net.

The premise of the story seems simple.

A foreign “journalist” from Kazakhstan comes to America with a mission to understand American culture.

But Borat speaks mostly gibberish and uses his fake interviews to prank his unsuspecting victims.

Racism, homophobia, bigotry, and anti-Semitism are unintentionally exposed in the heart of America.

Toilet and sex jokes are the order of the day.

One-liners hit or miss their target.

But don’t despair.

Borat uses a slew of comic techniques.

It’s a mockumentary with a fish-out-of-water twist.

Borat is also a buddy movie.

Borat has a fat sidekick who travels with him through many of their unscripted misadventures.

A nude chase scene between the two in a luxury hotel adds to the surreal fun.

Borat has a fantasy love interest, but when he finally meets the girl big fireworks ignite.

The constant culture clash and silly slapstick provide endless satirical fodder.

But don’t take these follies too seriously.

Just enjoy the ride and be sure to tell a friend.

Oh, and there’s also a bear that gets its head chopped off.

So don’t open your fridge.

You could cringe.
