Happy New Year dear Medium Network members! I am sharing a piece of Haitian Culture AND History today. After New Year Eve on December 31st, we go straight to Independence Day on January 1rst. We have our typical cocoa beverage in the early morning, then we eat the “Independence Soup” made with pumpkin and vegetables.

Everyone has to share it outside of his/her house. That’s how my mom ended up with 23 different kinds of soups one year. More than a soup, that’s the memorandum of our freedom. It reminds us to look back and work harder to improve what we have built since the end of slavery and share love and respect in memory of the ancestors.

I am pretty sure that you all want some of this amazing soup full of love, respect and sharing essence. Taste it in the picture and inbox for the recipe 😋
