The terms “racist” and “sexist” are strong accusations that used to and ought to mean something much stronger than “biased.” We all have implicit biases, and many of us try to remain aware of them and correct for them in our behaviors. Unfortunately, some don’t, and calling them exaggerated and inflammatory names will only drive them further from political correctness. It’s too bad that in our click-bait (or clap-bait) media culture, these headlines are acceptable. The vitriol in the headline prevents anyone who doesn’t already agree with her from taking her points seriously. That’s unfortunate as Ms Bell has some valid concerns that are worth a more nuanced discussion.
