It might fly in the face of a sales pitch, but I’d suggest including one or more brutally honest slides about risks, obstacles and competitors. The presentation should specifically address these, even if it means saying “we’re not sure of the best way to handle this yet.” This conveys credibility and understanding that will lead to meaningful dialogue and relationships. If investors can’t trust me to be forthcoming with all the key information they’ll need to make an informed decision, why should they trust me at all?
