It’s the first day of September in Eugene, Oregon. It’s a beautiful late summer day, but most of the city hasn’t really noticed. Of the roughly 160,000 citizens that occupy Oregon’s pastoral Emerald City, roughly half are inside and around the grounds of hallowed Autzen Stadium, a massive Nike-branded concrete bowl that sits on a former landfill on the other side of the Willamette River from the University of Oregon.
