Says the guy/gal who just spent their time commenting on a comment on a comment on a comment on a post? :p
All kidding aside though, I think that the philosophy of “caveat emptor” is not a particularly strong argument against caring about low wage jobs. Yelp/Eat24 chose to set up shop in one of the top 50 most expensive places to live and then offer a non-livable wage to their employees — a wage which is actually far below the market rate for phone support in the tech industry, which is closer to $20/hr. It is perfectly legitimate for Talia and everyone else to criticize Yelp/Eat24 on that front.
Context is important here. Millennials are set to be the first generation since the 1930s to earn less and have less wealth than their parents. The going theory during the 80s and 90s was that a rising tide lifts all boats, so why has income and particularly wealth inequality skyrocketed since then? I think wages are an important aspect of our economy to talk about if we care about these things.
