……………………………………….. Respect…………………………………………………

Respect cannot be designated as one thought or action; it has many aspects with all slightly different meanings. In a general view I believe most people think of respect in a common way as politeness or graciousness that is appointed to people like teachers, government officials politicians, celebrities or aristocrats. I perceive respect in an entirely different way. Respect can be driven by a deeper emotion instead of certain way you address someone or behave around them. Respect should not be an emotion or action demanded by others because they are given a certain amount authority and choose to use their influence to hurt people, like demanding respect and threatened with punishment if not shown. Respect can and should be something you give only to the people you decide deserve it. Respect can be an unfathomable sense of awe for someone you love, a feeling of veneration of someone’s beliefs and principles. If the person in question is somebody as mean and nasty as The Wicked Witch of the West, it would be relatively difficult to show an unfathomable sense of awe for him or her. But if the person you admire is as loving and capable as a lioness is to her cubs than it would be your inclination to show respect. Naturally if the person in question is a figure with authority, similar to the people mentioned above, and any discourtesy could mean the cause of a penalty, then instead of awe you can show a substantial amount of courtesy as an alternative. I believe that respect demanded from someone or their status in life is not and never will be the same as respect given out of free will, a respect that means someone feels you deserve it. I can only hope that others share my opinions and thoughts, but more importantly respect them. Admiration, deference, esteem, reverence veneration, awe, regard, politeness, graciousness, courteousness, cordiality, affability…… they all relate to one word Respect.
