“Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.” — John Wooden
He Ran For The Race
I wake every morning with a plan in place.
Where I’m going, what I’ll need, how to run a good race.
Rise early,
be stoic,
work hard,
and repeat.
But what would you do if to win you must cheat?
With first place comes the glory, the praise, and the fame.
But how great was the cost to hear them cheering your name?
I choose to stand,
I’ll fight the good fight.
Cheer the man in the mirror when I get home at night.
I stuck to my plan.
My virtues still hold.
I’ll judge my success by the story that's told:
He didn’t run for a medal,
He ran for the race.
He stayed true to himself,
He still won in last place.
