[a] — very true, I guess if you’re a media company telling your investors “no no, I’m trying innovative new things with Facebook” you have some plausible deniability if/when your revenue falls…
[b] — a lot of companies probably are, actually. Like, it makes sense for someone like Facebook or Medium to try to own distribution for media companies, and I’m sure they all tell themselves (and even honestly believe) that they’ll never use that power for evil. But of course, things change, leadership changes, times get tough, etc…
As a media company, once you give up control of distribution you have to at least prepare for the possibility that your friends at Facebook or Medium or wherever will turn on you.
