The following is a small collection of photographs I have taken as a photography student over the past year.

The above pictures are of a fellow class member of mine. Her name is Clara and she was kind enough to model for these photographs. The second photograph was used for an assignment where we had to show emotion. The emotion I chose was bliss and I believe that it was captured her by her having a simple smile and her hair lightly sweeping across her face.

When I see this photo I think of what it must have been like to be a film maker and having to use a camera like that. I caption this photo “Looking through a film makes eyes.” As a photographer I see things differently and I imagine that film makers do as well.

These two pictures are of when I was learning to use light in new ways to make a photo more interesting. For the first one my friends and I used a spray bottle filled with water and an inside of a highlighter to create a galaxy like pattern on her face, and to illuminate it we used a black light and eliminated any other light source.

For the second photo we again isolated the light and used a light-saber as a single light source to get the red light effect.

While visiting the Cleveland Flea, a friend and I noticed a bubble machine next to a wall painted various colors and I was determined to take a picture that could show both of those things so my friend Jack agreed to pose and thus, this picture was born.

This photo is from my most recent outing walking around Cleveland. Later in the day, around sunset, we had found ourselves by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and noticed an extremely bright red light and decided to use it to our advantage. Katie, pictured above, leaned against the building while I stood on a small pole type thing in order to get the above view.

About me: I decided to become a photographer because I liked the idea of being able to show people how I see the world, instead of having to find the words to describe something, I can just take a picture of it. Another reason is, I believe that a picture can change the world.

Everyday we hear about these awful things like war and disease killing so many around the world, but we could never imagine it because we aren’t there to see it. With a photograph its possible to see the horror and feel the emotion.

My goal with photography is to document to my life. My likes, dislikes, beliefs, pain, regrets, loves, and losses. And while I could write about them, a photograph could say more them I ever could.
