Changing the edible perception
On the topic of edibles, people sometimes bring up the whole “If it’s not geared at kids, than why does it look like candy” argument, which I get.
Stoner chefs of yesteryear often didn’t have the culinary sense to make an infused omelet or medicated smoothie. They opted for a pan of brownies, which was simple, familiar, and supposedly covered the “hashy” taste pretty well. Even as the medical cannabis field progressed, people were more apt to medicate familiar sweets than savory items which didn’t always cover the cannabis flavor so efficiently, I’m guessing.
My question now is, how do we turn the world of edibles into a more coherent, interactive experience for people? How do we move edibles into being a more grown up attraction, for one; and also, make them into a more well rounded culinary experience? I would love to see accessible, infused ingredients geared at the novice stoner chef, for instance.
There’s so much more to the adult palette than brownies, gummies, and taffy. And so many ways to involve the amazing flavors that cannabis and its various terpenes can bring to the table. Not to mention the health benefit of not putting all of your edible cannabis eggs into one sugar laden basket.
This market has so much opportunity for new companies who are able to focus on varied infused products, breaking past the current edible go to’s. Looking to ingredients that quicken cannabinoid absorption, increase or delay effects, or even counteract effects for unfortunate overindulgent scenarios.
What kind of edibles would you guys like to see? What do you think would be a cool infused product that you haven’t seen before?
