It’s unbelievable that a student can do poorly in school when the only distraction is video games.

I know, I know…gaming addiction is a real thing. but only when a student is under an abnormal amount of stress and video game is the only way to escape from life.

This is not about doing well since school is supposed to be easy. This is something I learned over the course of my own education and college counseling with over 50 students.

I didn't know it exists. It helps me to ace all my tests and assignments. It helps me to be a student who knows all the answers in the classroom. It gives me the confidence to tackle any schoolwork, even the novel ones. …

Discipline is often considered as the consequence for children after they break the rules. Yet, we should start by understanding the importance of discipline and setting rules, knowing that punishment is in fact the least significant part of discipline.

Parents want to discipline children for their future healthy behavior. We all want the people around us to be well-behaved and to follow rules. However, have we really thought about the purpose we teach our children to have discipline?

Why do we want our children to clean their rooms after playing? Why do we want our children to brush their teeth before they go to bed? Why do we want our children to have manners and to be polite to visitors and elders? …

“You’ve got to be a really good talent scout because no matter how smart you are, you need a team of great people,” said Steve Jobs, founder and former CEO of Apple Inc, one of the largest corporations in the world. “You’ve got to figure out how to size people up fairly quickly, make decisions without knowing people too well and hire them and see how you do and refine your intuition … because you need great people around you.” Albeit vaguely, Jobs captured the essence of recruitment and selection of employees. The acquisition of employees not only requires the expenditure of a significant amount of time and resources; it is also complicated. Small business owners spend around 40% of their working hours doing hiring-related tasks (Gutner, 2011), which do not generate income. According to the Society of Human Resource Management, the average cost to hire an employee is $4,129; it takes around 42 days to fill a position (Shrm, 2017), not including the potential risk of counterproductivity and turnover. Luckily, human resource experts such as I/O psychologists strive to refine the hiring practice and attract suitable candidates who have the knowledge, skill, ability, and other personal characteristics (KSAOs). …

Andrew Grove survived both the Nazi and the communist regimes in Hungary before arriving in the United States. He attended City College of New York while working at a restaurant and obtained a B.S. degree in chemical engineering in 1960. In three short years, Grove received a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He then worked at Fairchild Semiconductor and later co-founded Intel — the company introduced the world’s first microprocessor in 1971. Intel attributes its success greatly to Andy, which was Grove’s preferred name. Andy was one of the most respected managers in the industry. In 1997, he was named Time magazine’s “Man of the Year.” Then-Intel Chairman Andy Bryant said, “Andy approached corporate strategy and leadership in ways that continue to influence prominent thinkers [such as Steve Jobs and Bill Gates] and companies around the world. …

Wilson and I first met Mark at Pasadena WeWork. Mark had a vision for the tutoring center — Premier Academy in San Marino, and the first step is to add high-school programs to attract new clientele.

High-school programs offer better business practice in the following ways:

  1. They provide higher revenue per hour, and demand for SAT and AP preparation is higher than a middle after-school program, which was the primary revenue source.
  2. Wilson and I each have our established services, and we can directly use them at the tutoring center instead of developing new programs.

The first issue is the marketing…

The objective is to enroll in elite private high school before current middle school ends.
