We really need to pull away from this gender monolith framing. It’s dehumanizing—how can anyone imagine all women and all men on the Earth and not feel frightened?

Men and women are part of our lives. It’s for them who we feel empathy. The connection we feel with other people beyond our communities and countries are beautiful moments that we should value; but we cannot lose sight of our own families and communities for those moments.

Instead of asking “do all women lack empathy for all men” we should be asking “do women lack empathy for the men in their communities”. I think those answers, and the converse questions we ask of men, will be far more helpful in moving the conversation and our lives towards better places.
