King Alfred’s Tower is this:

The tower is near the town of Brewham, which is on the border of Somerset and Wiltshire. The tower was built from 1765 – 1772 and was designed by Henry Flitcroft. It was built to celebrate the accession of George III and the end of the Seven Years War.

The tower was built on the site that the Battle of Edington 878 was thought to have taken place. Ethandun was King Alfred’s greatest battle, in which he dealt a major blow to Viking expansion, beginning the process of wider unity amongst the Anglo-Saxons.
