Coming from a family of immigrants, I can understand the plight of illegal immigrants who are here in the US and want to pursue an education, just like everyone else. However, there are plenty of citizens and immigrants who are here in the US legally that would also like the same opportunity. Shouldn’t the focus be on changing their status from “illegal” to “legal” before they get the opportunity to benefit from social programs? The fact that they are classified as “illegal” immigrants seems somehow lost in the conversation.
