Generally agreed. One reason “conservative” media have been dominated by fearmongers and demagogues is that no one in the mainstream would listen to and report on their worldviews. This is also true, as the author notes, of religious communities (whichnare not always conservative), urban black neighbohoods (which are not always liberal), or middle America’s abused and ignored poor (who are not always white or Democrat).
I like the concept of news organizations’ moving from mere information distributors towards communication enablers. Making that happen, though, will likely require new revenue sources. Where can the media turn for perspective-neutral sponsorship?
