The Dangers of Communist Ideologies
Around 35 years ago I lived in Germany (west), it was a great experience, and I am very thankful to my parents for raising me in multiple countries around the world. Living in Europe as a young man truly taught me culture and style. But all was not well in Europe at that time, as it was during the cold war, and many European countries were behind the ‘iron curtain’ in the east-block; countries that were communist and controlled by Moscow through agents and the Soviet military. After the second world war, Germany was split amongst the victors into pieces, and all parts were returned, with the exception of the Russian part of Germany, it remained under Soviet control as a communist version of Germany, the Deutsche Demokratische Republik, or in English: German Democratic Republic. It has always surprised me that the most repressive authoritarian regimes created in the last century proclaim to be — even in their names — democratic, not only East Germany, but of course we also see this with several African states, North Korea, and last but not least now we have the Chinese Communist Party proclaiming to be democratic as of recent.
The danger of Marxism and derivative concepts, such as Critical Theory, and from that Critical Race and Gender Theory, as well as other socialist and communist concepts pose a great danger to culture and society. The difference between equity and equality may only be a few letters, yet they are principally so very different; equality suggests equal opportunities for all, your efforts will determine your success; and then there is equity, equality of outcome, meaning without substantial effort an individual could simply become an executive, doctor, or lawyer. Now personally I would not want surgery performed on me by a non-qualified surgeon. When looking at communism , apart from being responsible for more deaths than WW1 and WW2 combined, it has almost always led to authoritarian regimes. Karl Marx, a German citizen was the brainchild of socialist and communist governing models and has been a core inspiration to Stalin and Lenin. The danger we can clearly see is a trend towards Marxist inspired Critical Theory variants in western countries, along with pushes towards an equality of outcome, and overtly socialist trends within certain parties.
One of the biggest misconceptions about communist authoritarian countries is their media. Before Mikhail Gorbachev with Glasnost and Perestroika in the 80’s, the USSR just as North Korea or China today simply pump out propaganda that favors the communist authoritarian regimes. Only recently has the economy in China taken such a nosedive with bankruptcy proceedings in the largest real estate companies, shipyards, high speed train projects, and various other enterprises. This has lead to more awareness of issues relating to the CCP.
Parabolically back to the Cold War and the wall between East- and West Germany. The wall between the east and the west was in essence two walls, with a neutral zone between, providing for a wide, barren area, that made it easy for East German snipers to shoot people who were trying to flee the East. Luckily hundreds were able to make it across alive, but over 100 hundred were executed, simply while trying to reach freedom. Regularly there was news of people being shot while fleeing. How bad must life have been under the USSR and communist member countries for people to risk their lives and all they own, for a mere chance at a better life and freedom. Certainly countries like China, North Korea, and other countries with repressive regimes should embrace their own ‘Glasnost and Perestroika’. But the greatest risk for western countries is the blind embrace of Marxist and communist ideologies, after all history has shown time and time again that people are willing to risk everything to escape such tyranny.
