Hello and thanks. I am very glad to learn that you enjoyed the essay. But believe me, I got the full white rage when this first came out. Hundreds of angry responses, thousands of angry tweets, dozens of anti-semitic emails, and even hand written hate mail in my campus in box. And I’m glad I’m not on facebook. I stopped reading my mentions years ago. But I took a chance on yours tonight because you said you are a teacher, and well, so am I, and I’m glad I did. But two million hits later between this edition and the version on Gawker (remember Gawker?) and I still get threats. The threats were so intense when the piece first went viral that I was emailing Medium staffers about either taking the piece down or removing all the comments. My campus police tried to offer me protection. Of course, I got lots of positive feedback and some real love and appreciation. But it still felt like being trapped out in the open during in a hailstorm. The truth remains that if you challenge white supremacy with any effectiveness, it will respond with threats and intimidation in a violent effort to defend itself.
