Five Minute Free Write
This morning, I was asked to do a five minute free write on the subject of my summer. Did I change? How? Did I miss an opportunity to change?
Five minutes, no breaks, just writing.
Did I change this summer? Sure did.
I went to a local coffee shop every day to relax, to listen to music, and tap into all the thoughts that were shunted during the year — all the thoughts I didn’t have time to explore.
On the surface, it felt like a waste of time at times because I was just spending money without working. Bills persisted, but so did my hunger to grow and mature.
I noticed how I was worrisome about my future. Then, through writing and reading, I realized how my present was pretty good and my future, though unknown, holds more promise than I previously thought.
Now, what to say next? I did get to meet the Orioles’ Chris Davis and former Raven Trevor Pryce, so that was a surprise. It was good for me to be faithful in the discipline of getting up early to read, write, and encourage others, even and especially if it meant the possibility of failing.
A conflict I navigated was the loss of money, but I don’t regret it.
