Instant access to Adobe Connect service information in Slack.

I’ve been tinkering with a variety of technology lately, and in particular, have enjoyed research on the integration possibilities with Slack as a platform for enterprise and government customers. In a variety of recent conversations with CIOs and IT managers, I’m seeing continued excitement and anticipation around the potential of leveraging Slack. The wide variety of use cases that organizations are exploring go far beyond “replacing email,” and show tremendous promise in bridging the gap between collaboration tools and core business workflow. This bodes well for the platform-play that Slack has been engaging on, and makes for an exciting time for solutions-oriented folks looking for the next great platform.

Inspired by some of these use-cases, I’ve been having some fun developing an integration between Slack and Adobe Connect. I’ve worked with the Adobe Connect product for a long time ( co-founded ConnectSolutions, and worked at Adobe and Macromedia prior ), and have a lot of familiarity with Connect’s integration potential. Slack’s APIs and integration approaches were a completely new experience for me. Let’s get to the fun stuff:

What does it do?

“ConnectAdmin” is a virtual assistant ( aka: Slack bot ) that provides instant access to real-time Adobe Connect information such as availability and usage metrics. It’s geared towards IT Admins, Event Producers, or business owners who want to be on the pulse of their Adobe Connect investments. Simply ask “ConnectAdmin” what you are looking for, and it will deliver!

Instant feedback on Adobe Connect availability.

In the event all is not “well,” it will let you know:

Hmmm…better get working on the problem.

As you may have noticed, “ConnectAdmin” also incorporates some basic natural language processing ( a Logistic Regression Classifier ) to make the experience more friendly in tense support moments… But wait, there’s more! You can also ask it to provide the number of meetings running on the system, or even which meetings are running…

You can be demanding…the bot doesn’t mind…

Where to go from here…

I’d love to hear from you if interested in deploying this for your Adobe Connect service, and what other capabilities you’d like to see. While it started as a fun learning exercise, there’s definitely some utility here for those who are running their business on Adobe Connect and Slack…
