Back Yourself 100%
Written by Michael Hanson
Do you realise how rare and hard it is to come across people that believe in themselves 100%. The world is full of weak, fake, needy and attention seeking people that will do almost anything and everything for you to agree with them. I have been observing lots of people online lately and I’m starting to notice a common thread. The people that are making an impact in their industry unapologetically believe in something and don’t care if you agree with them or not.
For better or for worse people with strong belief systems are making an impact. Take Donald Trump for instance (man if I see another Donald Trump post!) like him or not his frame is unshakeable, he’s got the attention of the masses right now. I mean the guy is aggressive, power hungry and has been recorded talking about grabbing women by the pussy. Most men in politics would hang their heads in shame but Trump doesn’t care and the people of the United States of America have elected him President. People are sucked into his belief system “Make America Great Again” and rewarded him instead.
Conor McGregor, the UFC fighter is another example. There has been no UFC fighter before him that put this sport on the map like he did (he backs it up with talent too). I didn’t even know about UFC until I heard about him. He has an unshakeable belief system that people want to watch him fight because he believes he is the best in the world.
Being unapologetic is not about aggression or shouting slogans or being cocky about how you’re gonna break someone’s face. It isn't in the delivery, look at Dalai Lama he’s consistently being questioned and ridiculed but his delivery is gentle, strongly believing in compassion and love. A lot of online marketers are watching Gary Vaynerchuk take over the online game. So much so that they are trying to copy him. But it isn't the delivery you should be looking at, its the strength of his belief system. Other legends like Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King, Albert Einstein, Princess Diana, Steve Jobs and Tupac Shakur all have different ways of delivering their message but they all have something in common, they unapologetically believe in something and don’t care what others think.
The point I’m trying to make with brands is believe in something. But the bigger point is stop letting the reaction of others stop you. Meaning, don’t let fear or rejection dominate and dictate something you truly believe in. Own it, be unapologetically yourself. If you are reading this, the real value is not in regurgitating what everyone else is saying to fit in or worse, screaming for attention. It is in the measure of your belief system, the fuel that is driving your cause, delivered with your perspective, viewpoint and context around your subject area that creates impact. The world craves connection. We listen, love or hate people that are standing and fighting for something and don’t care if we agree with them or not. Back yourself 100% because if you don’t you won’t have a real impact, doubt yourself and you will be ignored and forgotten.
There’s an old saying that I love, ‘If you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything’.
