90 Days to Fame & Fortune
(or certain obscurity)
What’s your Big Hairy Audacious Goal: to run a marathon, achieve financial freedom, climb Everest, travel the world, get out of bed, see again? Some have small BHAG’s, other’s impossible ones. Some make you smile, others make you wince.
My preposterous dream is to help raise the planet’s consciousness. Don’t ask me how — the dream came to me in a flash, like a freight train crashing into me at full speed.
Inspired by Einstein’s famous quote, the dream consisted of scene after scene of philanthropic and charitable efforts creating more problems than they solved.
No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it. — Uncle Albert
Like so many with a dream, I’ll be writing my first book. Yes, along with the estimated 40-gazillion authors who will be publishing their works in 2013. This, my first post on Medium, kicks off a 90-day journal of what happens in the countdown to October 31, 2013 (ok, it’s 86 days, but I've literally just received my long-awaited invite from the good folk who call themselves Team Medium).
I have no idea what to expect — it’s my first time, remember. The learning curve has been incredibly steep, and will no doubt become steeper. What I do know is that there will be bruises, tears, lessons learned and hopefully small celebrations along the way. I hope you’ll join me — it will be a lonely journey without you.
Whether you’re an aspiring or published author, you’ll probably recognize my trials and tribulations, but mostly I hope to leave a few ideas, tips and shortcuts as I’m fortunate enough to learn them.
Without a doubt, the most valuable lesson I’ve learned so far is to design the book cover as early as possible. Once designed and printed, wrap it around another book and leave it next to your place of writing. Seeing the finished product every day has worked wonders for me in keeping focus and motivation laser-focused.
Stats We’ll Track
I have no idea what statistics are important, but publishers and agents seem to be particularly interested in the size of an author’s platform, so this is what we’re going to show them, just to keep it simple.
Thanks for your support — I genuinely mean that. Whether it’s sending positive vibes throughout the journey, a cyber high-five or inviting your friends along, your virtual friendship means the world to me — thank you.
