I so agree with this, but as covered in my thesis, tech has been focussed on efficiency, productivity, growth and cost reduction for it’s entire life (left hemisphere dominance). Until its focus shifts towards empathy, connection, nurturing — even love (right hemisphere dominance)— tech has no chance of solving humanity’s grandest challenges. I argue that tech has failed humanity’s third most basic need (according to Maslow): Love and belonging (and no, Facebook doesn’t come close to meeting these needs, according to numerous studies on tech & empathy). I believe we will see more tech startups focussing on these needs over the coming years.
