this relentless, seemingly constant insistence on its terminal illness or death does raise the question: why do so many people seem to want movies to die?
Why Is Everyone So Quick To Proclaim the Death of Movies?

It’s not that people “want” it, it’s that people like to make big, declarative statements about everything is special in the moment of time they are living in. There’s also little to no cost to false prognostication — this isn’t the first dumb thing Ellis has said and it won’t be the last, yet we’ll still grant it attention.
The only upside I see to people making big, dumb, wide sweeping statements like this is that it then provides an excuse for genuinely thoughtful cultural commentary — like this piece for example. So god bless FSR for being a voice of interesting insight in a form often driven by Chicken Little like proclamations.
