Work Placement Journal -Xpand International Day 1

Today Myself and Shane Donnelly arrived at our hired hot-desk in Belfast to begin working with Xpand International at 9:30am. Our morning started with a 2 hour long Skype call with the managing director James Gumble whilst he was in California. We were introduced to the projects that we would be involved with over the duration of our placement. He explained in detail how we would be meeting with clients and providing them with all sorts of various design needs including web design, animations, and compiling various materials from printing.

He talked us through guidelines and discussed how we would interact with other members through a Slack channel. One of these slack channels was for attendance were we would sign into work and declare three tasks we wanted to accomplish for that day.

After our call with James we sat down with his personal assistant Helen Jakes who help us prioritise the work flow. First priority was creating information brochures for Xpand International that James could have printed and take to meetings whilst he is in San Francisco. Another task for the day was to redesign the website for NIFX.

Before signing off for the day at 6:45 we began researching for client meetings that would happen the following day. Creating mood boards and researching client’s desired demographics. Enjoyed the first day, it as intense, but I am excited for what projects we will be involved with over the duration of our placement.
