Work Placement Journal -Xpand International Day 2

9:30am — Checking in.

Everyday we start, we check in to the Slack Channel to discuss what we are going to do for that day.

We continued work on our assigned projects which included:

Design of Xpand International information brochure
Continued work on NIFX website
Research for the meetings with Wendy from Windrush Cuisine, and Patrick Sanders — Illustrator with a hand drawn book to be published.

13:30 — Meeting with Wendy from Windrush Cuisine.

We met with Wendy today who was a delight to talk to. We asked question to investigate what she need in regards to branding.

The meeting resulted in us finding out she needs a basic website design done via wordpress. Something she can easily update herself through CMS.

We also managed to convince her to perhaps get some updated professional photography from us that could be used for the branding.

Shortly after the meeting we had a Google Hangouts call with James. We translated our results to James about what Wendy required — James then presented some useful advice. He highlighted the point that I missed out on — asking about any other projects that Wendy may have had that could potentially require work — outside of what she was asking directly for. This would then be a question to continue asking in future for future client meetings.

16:30 — Meeting with Patrick Sanders (Illustrator)

Our meeting with Patrick introduced us to his plans to publish a children's book that he requires pieced together. He also required a wide range of promotional mock-ups and a website design. These mock-ups would provide him with a way to approach book stores and publishers without the book actually having to be finished. Taking on James’ advice from earlier in the day we asked about other projects. This immediately had Patrick excited to discuss another work-in-progress publication. We discussed how we could also provide branding for these projects. Finance had to be discussed with Helen before any work could begin.

After the meeting with Patrick I continued work on branding for Xpand International. The Deadline for the Xpand Branding is for Monday — Working hard to finish the designs — all while staying in contact with the team over Slack.

17:45 — Signing Off

After sharing progress for the day through Google Drive — which is how Xpand International like to share files — We signed out using the slack channel and headed home. Work still continued once I arrived home. Excited about the upcoming projects I began brainstorming ideas for the next day.
