The Secret to a Very Merry Christmas

Regardless of religious affinity or nationality, Christmas is a time we can all celebrate the birth of a great soul. For many, Christmas is an opportunity to renew faith in tradition, in each other, and in our beliefs. What is more, the deep beautiful feelings underlying Christmas are universal. All rejoice and are humbled before such exquisite feelings. Such sublime feelings emanate from the best of who and what we are. It matters not if one is Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, or atheist in this regard. Divinity is universal.

Whether we believe in the story of Jesus’ birth or not, who Jesus was and how he touched the truth of the Infinite in so many lives over the centuries is worthy of celebration. With dignity and courage, Jesus stood up for the Divinity that dwells within us all. What greater thing could be asked of any being?

And in that regard, the Christmas holiday can be a time to acknowledge those on the path of spiritual evolution, awakening to the Infinite. Those seekers have my deepest respect. The path to enlightenment does indeed require dignity and courage. Personal commitment to that is most honorable. It is not always easy. But forward, forward, always forward a person must go. At times you stumble, yet again you stand tall and continue. I could not be prouder, nor could I be more grateful than to have the opportunity to be by people’s side as so many continue upon this most laudable path.

Fulfillment comes not from what is showered upon you, but from what you allow to radiate out from within you. Here is a simple formula for happiness: simply remember to give, give, give from the heart of your Being. Life’s greatest secret, life’s greatest mystery, life’s greatest paradox is that by giving out what lies deep within, you become full. Such giving need not be overt or acknowledged. It needs only to be done.

Admittedly, much of what has come to clutter the surface level of Christmas is arbitrary, from buying fancy gifts to Christmas card obligations. But at its depth, Christmas is humanity’s lifeblood. It is more essential than air, food, and water. Indeed, it outlives the body. It is the Song of the Soul. Without the deep feelings that we renew on Christmas, life withers on the vine. A life dedicated to that essence is a life well lived. To renew and enliven those feelings is to feed the soul. It gives life meaning. It is life’s meaning.

With deeply heartfelt gratitude and joy, a Merry Christmas to you, one and all.
