Fear mongering isn’t helpful. Black lives do matter. This is precisely why choosing the Clintons out of fear is dangerous. Bill Clinton pushed for some of the toughest incarceration legislation in the 1990s. Many of the families affected by those decisions are still feeling the effects today. Hillary, unsurprisingly, influenced Bill’s decisions quite effectively. Elizabeth Warren said as much when talking about a bankruptcy bill:
Hillary has paid lip service to Black Lives Matter, but her actions are a bit Trumpian. Her campaign in 2008 released a photo showing the then-Senator Obama in African tribal clothing to pander to racist voters.
On a 60 minutes episode, Hillary was asked about the choice to release such a photo that clearly tried to portray him as a Muslim. ”You don’t believe that Senator Obama’s a Muslim?” Kroft asked Sen. Clinton.
“Of course not. I mean, that, you know, there is no basis for that. I take him on the basis of what he says. And, you know, there isn’t any reason to doubt that,” she replied.
“You said you’d take Senator Obama at his word that he’s not…a Muslim. You don’t believe that he’s…,” Kroft said.
“No. No, there is nothing to base that on. As far as I know,” she said.
As you can see, when she is winning, she is perfectly willing to pay lip service to the marginalized. When she is in full campaign mode, she is willing to forgo her purported virtues in order to defeat her opposition. Bad optics, be damned.
That’s not even scratching the surface. There’s plenty more I can draw from but I’ll spare you the novel, unless you’re interested.
