It’s always nice to read people being honest at these times. Kitsch is important to us as it represents the foundation emotion that gives us an easy temporary link to shared pleasure. Of course it also gives us the link to shared contrariness and it’s all a cliche which is another level of linkage.
Musical tastes are personal and are based on the organizational structure of our brains. A great book on this is Oliver Sacks, Musicophilia. And while appreciating Prince’s musical genius much else about him was not to be liked. Incidentally, I also ceased to enjoy his music after Little Red Corvette and Party Like It’s 1999.
