You can’t exactly compare Carter and Clinton, though.

Sorry for climbing in the middle of this. Historical analogies are always tricky. The world is both the same and different. Carter had a problem with religion and an aggressive rabbit as I remember. Either is a problem but both of those together was too much. But even Carter has had to back away from religion now.

Comparing Clinton to Reagan only works as Clinton is, I think, the end of the line for radical neoliberalisn that started under Reagan. I’m not sure Reagan knew what that was but it didn’t matter. He did what he was told. Other than Clinton and Reagan being white I don’t think much else comes through.

Since we’re caught between nearly total insanity and a well managed glide into economic failure I vote for the well managed glide. I now think, given Bernie’s power and Warren’s tenacity, Hilary might be forced to look at reality. It’s a thin hope but the alternative is a really dark and stormy night. . .
